Bandon-by-the-Sea
Slow down and spend some time in Bandon
Officially it's Bandon, but many call it Bandon-by-the-Sea. This is a picturesque seacoast town with ample charm, scenic beauty, and rich opportunities for recreation and relaxation. It's located on the Southern Oregon Coast at the mouth of the Coquille River, approximately 90 miles north of the California border, and about a 90 minute drive to Interstate 5 at Roseburg.
Before we entered Bandon from the south, we went west to see some of the coastline and were surprise to find a quaint area called the Face Rock area. There we found some out-of the way hotels/motels and a 9-hole golf course. From the photos on our Photo Gallery, you'll see we spend a few minutes enjoying the scenery...and yes, there is an actual Face Rock. It is about a quarter-mile offshore and it does look like the profile of a face.
We continued on and stopped at the famous Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. This course is in a beautiful setting, with actually two courses (one along the cliffs and the other a bit more inland). Both have gorgeous manicured fairways and greens. Someday when I'm rich and famous, I'll play a round or two there. With the sun going down, it was time to continue up the coast to Coos Bay, where we had hotel reservations for the night.
Please travel with us as we
head north...on to the Coos Bay area.
